Eliza, was diagnosed with cancer in August 2022 after a routine doctor’s appointment for odd bruising on her legs. She was only four years old.
Within 2 hours of having a routine blood test, Eliza’s Mum, Lisa received a phone call telling her to head to emergency right away. Eliza was given a platelet and blood transfusion before being transported to Westmead Children’s Hospital. Her family, including Dad Nathan and older sister Evelyn, were then told the devastating news that Eliza had leukaemia.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney, in Westmead, became Eliza and her family’s home-away-from-home for 222 nights.
Her mother Lisa described what the House meant to their family in a letter she wrote to us when they returned home earlier in 2023.
“You all have been such a significant part of our 7 ½ months living in the house. We appreciate everything you all have done for us. You all have seen us at our lowest and highest parts of Eliza’s treatment. Thank you for being the place we have called home. We will miss you all. We will forever be grateful.” – Nathan, Lisa, Evelyn, and Eliza
